While going grocery shopping in pouring rain and electrical storms was generally a bad idea, Drina had chosen the right time to do hers. She had been soaked on her brief run, but she needed the groceries. She rarely kept anything substantial in her tiny apartment (another trait she had learned when moving from place to place), but with terrible weather came the necessity to stockpile on certain foods. When she came home with her sopping bags of food, she mused that if she had gone the day before she could have saved herself a trip. She also mused that considering how often Marco came over, she was going to have to start shopping for groceries regularly. She had been putting most of the foodstuffs away whenever Marco arrived. Then, like normal, she had cooked and they had talked while enjoying some lunch. Halfway through their meal, Drina realized something: she had a routine. She worked, she went to the dojo, and she hung out with Marco. Almost every day, those three things happened in some form or fashion.
She wasn't sure how long Marco had been there when the power went out, but she wasn't about to kick him out into the rain. So they were sitting on her couch, enjoying each other's company without the added distraction of television or a radio. And after nearly a month since meeting him, Drina took the opportunity to get to know Marco a little bit better. She had kicked off her shoes and pulled her legs up onto the sofa, her knees pressing through her worn jeans. "So where are you from originally?" she asked, reaching for her glass of water on the table next to her. She had an idea, this thought that danced around in her head every time that he spoke, that Marco was from the same place she was. If not the exact town, then perhaps somewhere near by. The inflections in his voice sounded so much like her mother's. Drina lost those little nuances from living so long in the States, even though her accent was still relatively thick.
