panic for a minute, got my brain in a daze Who: Bess & Reggie (NPC Sarah) Where: The apartment When: After school/work
Be quiet, Angelo. It was a really dumb thing to think because ghosts weren’t telepathic and he was all the way in her bedroom probably rearranging her desk or something, but Bess could still hear him from her seat on the sofa. He was singing real loud in Italian -- like, opera-music -- and she knew that song was going to be stuck in her head for days now. And she didn’t even know the words. She started only slightly when Sarah dropped herself on the sofa too, but otherwise didn’t really register it. Her sister’s head was full of a mind’s version of that fzzzz noise that she knew you got from old television sets if they got no signal. Which didn't mean Sarah’s brain got no signal; she was just quieter right now. It was nice. Better than school and the playground where all she could hear was bits and pieces of everything.
Sat with her legs folded underneath her and her cactus on her lap, her face fell into a thoughtful pout while she tried to think about whether Jojo was a boy or a girl. It was kind of important. To her, anyway. She blinked at a vague realisation that legs were obscuring her vision of the apartment in front of her. Man-legs. They weren’t her dad’s. Angelo, go away. Bess squinted up at him for the few seconds it took her to note that either her mind had turned off her ability to hear him (again... he got cranky when that happened) or he was faking it. He did that too. She decided it was the first one. She also wondered if Sarah knew she was kind of thinking a whole conversation to herself... Then her dad came within range and that funny background noise his head made levelled everything out again.
Oh. Sarah was talking.
That was something Bess hadn’t really wanted to know and she could feel her cheeks heat up already. This was one of those moments where she wished she could just go right ahead and switch off all of the weirdness in her head. All of it. “Dad?” She pushed herself off the sofa, Jojo kept levitated in front of her face so she wouldn’t drop it, and shuffled over to Reggie despite her sister’s complaints. “How’d you know if a cactus is a boy or a girl?”
