When it came to the relationship between Venus and his family, August found himself in quite a predicament. On the one hand, if all his emotions were removed from the equation, he would be entirely on the pack’s side of things. Venus may not have been pure vanilla human, but she wasn’t a wolf, and that was the only thing that mattered. Because of the way he felt, August did what he could to buffer the tension between his family and Venus. Even despite all his efforts, there was only so much he could do. It was hard for him to hold strong to his beliefs and anger at Trent for mating with someone outside the pack while at the same time defending Venus without giving away the reason behind it all. It was fortunate that she hadn’t asked him point blank whether or not marrying Trent would finally force them to accept her; even though he knew the answer would be no, August didn’t think he had the heart to say it to her face.
He was pretty clueless when it came to the magic front. All that he knew, he learned from Venus, and even then, it wasn’t typical for him to really ask outside of occasions when he needed some magical aide. There was every possibility that she had explained to him (on multiple occasions) the different types of magic and how the kind she practiced was unlike the others – only, August had managed to muddle them together and forget most of it each and every time. One thing he knew for certain: if Venus said she’d never used magic on Trent, he believed her. Actually, he didn’t think that she would use magic on anyone without telling them about it. “I mean, I might make them all jealous because of how much better I’ll look in the dress, but other than that, I’m sure it’ll go over great.” This time when he smiled, it was a genuine one to go with the sound of her giggle. “I’ll be there and, if it’s in my power, I’ll make sure everyone else is there too.” Unfortunately, August actually meant it. As upset as he was over the whole situation, he couldn’t hurt Venus that way. “I’m a regular match maker,” he said in a tone that was just a touch darker than he had meant it to be. He cleared his throat and tried harder to make his voice lighter. “How did you two first meet, anyway? All this time and I’ve never asked.” Because he had never really wanted to know. Venus had known August first, and then, seemingly out of nowhere, she knew Trent too. He had been too caught up in the initial jealousy of it all to investigate further.
