There'll be peace when you are done Who: Jonas and Selena Where: Their apartment When: Evening
Things had been blissfully slow at the firehouse that day. No accidents, nothing to stress over, not even a cat stuck in a tree, as the cliche went. It meant that there was plenty of time to get other things done around the firehouse, because of course Jonas was a stickler for that sort of thing, and then being able to go home when his shift was over. The new apartment he'd gotten since returning from Celestia was only just starting to feel like home to him. It wasn't like it was filled with all the pictures they'd had in the past, most of those were gone now, but it was a start.
And Selena was here with him. That, to Jonas, mattered the most. He was always better off when she was around, because she kept his feet on the ground. She kept him going. After all they'd been through, they still had each other, and that meant more than all the physical things put together.
He'd stopped at the grocery store on his way home and grabbed everything they'd need for dinner. Sure, they could have ordered take out, but it wasn't Jonas' style, and this way they'd have leftovers for the rest of the week. Yes, he'd thought that far ahead, already planning on taking at least some of this for lunch while at work. Growing up like he had, on the farm, you simply didn't put anything to waste if you didn't have to. Besides, who said no to homemade mashed potatoes and pot roast? Jonas didn't. He didn't remember exactly what Selena was working, but she'd be home by dinner time, and that was good enough for him. While he worked, he put on some music, and it wasn't long before he was lost, completely missing the sound of the front door being unlocked. He didn't have it in him to be embarrassed by what he was listening to, either. Yes, he was dancing around the kitchen. Whoever said Jonas couldn't be playful clearly didn't know him well enough.
