There was something very basic about fixing broken things that Daniel enjoyed. The key word there, of course, was things and not people. People he wanted to shatter into a million fragments and stomp on them gleefully in the new steel-toed boots that had been paid for generously by his tithers. But when it came to his church Daniel enjoyed the process of fixing the fence or mowing the lawn; or even fixing the shingles as he was doing today. Magic was not much help so it was all about these skills he had somehow developed over the years. This church was a special project because he had actually built it decades ago from the foundation up. Therefore the church had to be kept looking nice in his opinion. Who wanted to set foot in an old, run-down building? Other than the people who were already in almost desperate need of him, his words... ah, he loved his little flock of two-legged sheep and all of the fun that they brought him.
'I don't like my stable.' He was not as fond of the talking horse. 'Thunder.' The talking horse. 'I'm not that fond of you either. But build me a stable here or I may just break down the door and track my mess into your precious foyer. They won't be as fond of you if they have to smell horse all day.'
"You have a perfectly-" Daniel's voice cut off when he heard the sound of scrabbling on the roof. It could have been a squirrel or bird or some other little thing like that, but they did not seem to much care for the church. Perhaps they sensed that what lived inside had no desire to have them near and definitely no love for them. He did not turn his head, instead flicking his eyes to the side to see what it was. Ahhhhh, much more interesting than a brave squirrel or sparrow and he would have known her presence when she grew closer by the faint chill that ran down his spine. Then he actually registered the words he had heard before that he had just dismissed as children down the street or maybe even a precognition of sorts. "I don't need ladders, do I? Neither do you." Wings existed for a reason and why should they do anything other than use them? Daniel loved his wings. "Here to help me put shingles on the roof or did you want an impromptu Sunday school lesson?"
