old town, new feelings
WHO | Nora & Zoie
WHERE | Their apartment, Cherry Blossom Place
WHEN | Morning
Scarlet Oak. This was her birthplace, but somehow Nora didn't think she would ever feel like she was home again. She pushed herself out of the bed later than she would have liked, but earlier than the past week. They were back in town and Nora knew that her sister wanted to go out and visit their old friends, so she forced herself to get up in time to spend part of the day with Zoie. Her room was cluttered with boxes and the only thing that showed any sign that someone lived there was the fact that there were sheets on the bed. It didn't matter that everything had its appropriate place, Nora still had not pulled out more than a couple of plates and cups from the cardboard boxes that were lingering in the apartment hallways. She knew that Zoie was more than excited to be settling back into their hometown, but Nora would be more willing to settle in if her business there was done. Life didn't wait for vengeance, though, and that was why Nora was moving around the kitchen, searching through the boxes for a frying pan. Cereal and milk had been the staples for the past few days and Nora decided she was going to scramble some eggs for Zoie. She pushed up her sleeves and continued to rifle through the boxes labeled 'dishes' and she was so busy that she didn't quite catch the sound of feet skittering across the floor. If she had, then she would have seen the guinea pig that was running away from Aurum. When Nora found the pan and turned, she found the two fuzzy balls with her foot and practically tripped right where she was standing. "Shoo!" She nudged at them with her foot to scoot them out of the way. She sat the pan on the stove and glanced over her shoulder looking for her sister. There was another kitten and another guinea pig roaming around, which meant that Zoie had to know where they were. "Hey Zoie, I think you lost something," she called. "Sam or Dean or whatever his name is... I think he's wanting some breakfast; he's skulking around here looking for something. Aurum's making sure he stays away from the kitty food." She pulled the eggs out of the fridge along with some butter, realizing that there wasn't much in the refrigerator. It really didn't look like anyone was living here properly. She was going to have to take the day and fix that. |
