that boy is a monster
Who: Raphael and James
When: Late afternoon/early evening
Where: Outskirts of town
James was ten miles out of town when the tire blew. Now, it wasn't that she was the sort of pampered rich girl who couldn't change her own tire. Quite the opposite. Possibly as a result of her childhood, if there was anything James could do herself, she would. Rather than try and stamp this out of her, her uncle had encouraged the practice. No, the problem was when she pulled into the shoulder and looked in the trunk, there was a jack - but no spare tire. What the fuck kind of dealer sold a car without a spare? James had rattled through every bit of profanity she knew, and once she was able to breathe again, she dialed information and had them connect her with a random garage. After getting a promise that a tow would be on the way shortly, there was nothing to do but sit and wait.
Of course, she could have called Aiden to see if he could come pick her up, but she'd dismissed that idea as quickly as it had occurred to her in the first place. James told herself it was because it was an expensive car in an area she didn't know very well, but that wasn't the reason. The honest truth was that ever since that bridge had gone down, she'd been something of a basket case. James' way of coping with this was to withdraw as much as possible from everyone around her. She never knew when the flashbacks were going to hit, and if they did, she didn't want anyone witness to her breakdown. To help take the edge off, she'd been hitting the pills pretty hard. Particularly the Xanax. She popped two of these now and swallowed them dry, and leaned back in the seat as she waited.
