It was that time again -- the time that saw Halne heading as far out of town as she could so she could feed. This time it was different, though, and she felt that gut feeling that said she'd better be careful. What with all of the goings-on to do with the police and Scarlet Oak Park, there just wasn't room for error. She'd become careless, she realized that now, but tonight would be better. Instead of flying to her destination, Halne opted to make the drive out, and as far as she intended to go, she needed to stop to get gas. Sure, it wasn't exactly the chosen mode of transportation for those of her House, but then Halne always was a little bit different. A little more polite, and a lot more aware and respectful of life in so much as she could be. Self hatred did things to a vampire and Halne had done her utmost to set herself as far aside from the typical Gabriels as possible. There wasn't any rule prohibiting her from traveling without using her wings; if there was, she could bet on the fact that she'd be strung up so fast, her wings would just fall clean off. That doesn't make sense. Shaking her head to clear it and focus back in on the task at hand, Halne pulled into a random gas station, her eyes roving over the area as she pulled up to a pump. She put her car in park and pulled the visor down in front of her so she could look in its mirror. She smiled carefully, making a show of checking the makeup that she was not wearing before she flipped the visor back up and got out of her vehicle. Act natural, you're just a vain blonde woman burdened with the task of pumping your own gas.
Glancing over in the next row as she moved around to the appropriate side of her Ford Taurus, she spotted a brunette beginning to fuel up his truck. She looked at him for probably a moment longer than she should have, but she went about opening her gas cap shortly after. The scent of the gas station always made her nervous -- the smells overpowered any of the subtler things she was able to pick up, and it deprived her of her early warning in case something was lurking. She was definitely on edge, but she tried not to show it. She went to slide her credit card in to prepay for her gas, but the little piece of plastic slipped from her fingers. A tiny gasp of frustration escaped her lips as she bent to retrieve it, fumbling a little bit as she picked it up. Smooth, Halne, real smooth. Standing up to her full height, she lifted a brow as her gaze fell on the brunette man again. She gave a feigned laugh and pointed to her card. "Tricky things, these." She tried again to prepay and was successful this time. She removed the nozzle from its cradle and selected the proper fuel grade before beginning to fill her tank. Don't panic, don't panic. She tried again to get a scent from the air, but all she got was gasoline, for the moment. She'd have to get closer to get a proper scent off of anyone nearby, but Halne was just unwilling to move. She leaned back against her car and chafed at her arms a little bit -- it was supposed to be getting colder outside, right? She dug her hands into the pockets of her jacket a moment later, hunching her shoulders slightly. Hopefully she was playing the part well enough, though she had no real concept of temperature anymore.
