The whole situation was aggravating. First off, Julian couldn't seem to get a straight answer from the guy. Mostly because he was so scared. Which brought up the second point: Julian couldn't keep his head on straight long enough to have a decent conversation. Just...with what had happened at the Broadway Bridges...and then what had happened to Lotti and Marisa, he was at the end of his rope. Broadway Bridges: wrong place, wrong time, act of terrorism. Switcheroo: accepted as a coincidence. But this. This was really starting to grate on his nerves. Another coincidence? Julian wasn't so sure this time. What was that line? Of all the gin joints..., right? There were thousands of people in Ann Arbor - in Scarlet Oak - and somehow, this lost wolf just happened to be looking for August and just happened to find his beta and his littlest sister. What were the odds? ...well, whatever they were, Julian didn't like them. At least not well enough to give the guy any slack. But then he was cowering and whimpering and if he was acting, then he had this whole act down pat. Julian still wasn't convinced, however, and nearly growled at Lotti when she started talking again.
In any other situation, he might have told her to shut up and leave it to him. Lotti, however, wasn't just any pack member. She was August's sister and deserved more respect than he was giving her right now. Even if he didn't know whether she was right about the guy or not. Looking down at Lotti, he ground his teeth as she tried to talk to the...Sam. "He could be pretending, Lotti," Julian reminded her, although the words lacked conviction. He waited until she finished, however, before allowing the guy some space. He took a step back, pushing Lotti along with him. Easing the tension out of his jaw, Julian tried to find the rational side of him. The one that knew how to talk to someone. Unlike Lotti, though, he wasn't curious about why the kid was acting the way he was. Only why he was looking for August. And why he'd chosen to talk to them about it. Well, in fairness, it'd been Lotti and him that had approached him first. Okay, Lotti. "Answer her questions; I'm not feeling particularly patient today." A hollow threat, really, Julian wasn't about to do anything to some defenseless man in broad daylight. Or maybe he would. Julian still hadn't reined his animalistic instincts in quite yet. At any rate, he was a respectable member of the community (helping animals did that for your reputation) and the last thing he needed was to go to jail for aggravated assault, which essentially what was going on. He relaxed the arm that was holding Lotti back a little, letting her know that she was doing okay, but that she still wasn't to approach the stranger until Julian had a better read on him.
