When she -- Lotti, she'd said her name was -- ducked down to try and meet his gaze Sam's instincts and conditioning kicked in and took over, his eyes diverted elsewhere, dropping even lower until he was practically looking at his own feet. Sensing more than seeing the other male -- Lotti had called him Julian; Uncle Julian to be precise -- relaxing and adjusting his stance didn't help him much, they were still two strange, new wolves who were clearly very close to one another and they had come right over to him. Part of his mind perceived that as confrontation and the fight or flight response was close to kicking in, he could feel it buzzing in the back of his brain like an angry bee but it wasn't take over yet. Not just yet.
His gaze came up a little when they said they could help, that they weren't going to hurt him, but Sam had trouble believing it. Help him? Weren't going to hurt him? That didn't seem right. Omegas didn't get help, and what other purpose did they have if it wasn't for other wolves to take out their pent-up aggression on? It was confusing to Sam and he felt his mind tying itself in knots, his thoughts getting tangled up in it all until he could scarcely remember what he had come here for in the first place. He heard the word motel and shook his head. "I can't--" No, that would sound like he was offering for help. Maybe it would be safer to just bypass that completely. "I-I was looking for someone." He just hadn't gotten far with it, that was all.
Still, instead of actually coming out and saying, straightforwardly, who it was he was looking for, he lifted his gaze to each of them in turn, just for a moment, and then dropped his eyes down again as he'd been taught was respectful and more fitting for someone of his status. You could look someone in the eye but only for a second. No longer, and no exceptions. If they were interested in who it was he was looking for then they would ask, but if they didn't then it wasn't right to tell them. They probably had more important things to do that talk to someone like him.
