The smile remained on her face, but Nikita’s eyes opened wider from both surprise and worry when Silvia brought up the fact that she had smelled her in Missy’s room. Even if she had wanted to lie about that night, there was no denying the evidence that she had been there – at least not to a were. “Um… well…” She licked her lips to bide more time while she came up with an explanation. Her words had to be chosen carefully. Though she had no issue with what she told Silvia, she had to assume that the girl would relay the conversation back to Kristen and the last thing she wanted to deal with was an angry Missy because Kristen had learned something she wasn’t supposed to. One day she’s going to have to accept that Kristen likely knows it days before it will happen. Just as she was learning to accept that Silvia had her own way of learning things. “First of all, I didn’t technically bite her.” Nikita pushed her paperwork to the side and turned to face Silvia completely. “I’ve actually never bitten her.” She mentally kicked herself for instantly imagining what that would be like, or if Missy would even consider letting her now.
Her eyes shut and she shook her head; she wasn’t answering Silvia’s question. “We’re not any kind of—I mean, we’re just getting along now. Trying to. A lot has happened and it’s really confusing.” Nikita gave the were a look as though she could will the twelve year-old to suddenly understand. She wondered if Silvia had ever liked someone or been in a situation that could translate even a little to what she was trying to explain. And then in that same instant she felt incredibly protective and hoped that Silvia was still too young to be thinking about relationships; Nikita hadn’t been a mother very long, but even now she didn’t think that her daughter would ever be old enough in her eyes. “Would it bother you? If I was with Missy –or anyone for that matter?” She quickly added the later part to clarify that she wasn’t specifically asking for Silvia’s opinion on the two of them.
