What is and what should never be
Who: Regina and Dream!NPCs
Where: Dreamland
When: Nighttime
Regina had just fallen asleep, she could’ve sworn, and here she was waking right back up again. This wasn’t her room, however, but the room she shared with Clive when they had lived together. Off on the other room she could hear the sound of eggs and bacon sizzling in the pan and as after she got up and she walked through the threshold, her baby Chuck was sitting in a high chair just off the kitchen table. He was playing and though it was something so mundane Regina filled with love as she looked at him, happy and healthy. In fact, she felt love all around her, like a warm blanket. It was in Clive cooking them breakfast, in her son playing in the high chair, in the music playing on the radio...
“Regina, baby, breakfast’s almost ready!” She heard Clive say. With a grin Regina rushed to Chuck’s high chair, but when she went to pick him up there was a soul-shaking sound of thunder. Darkness grew - or light disappeared, she couldn’t tell, but Regina felt a very distinct sensation of dread. When she looked to Clive he was standing where he’d been before, cooking breakfast as if nothing had happened. He hadn’t heard.
They’re coming she heard herself say just before being shoved by an invisible force through a deep dark hallway and into a wall. Pinned to it she could still see the brightness of the faraway kitchen, hear faintly the music coming from it, but it was so far away and it seemed as if it was disappearing. Regina didn’t want to let it go, let them go, but soon black shadows were approaching her and she knew if she took her attention off of the place where Clive and Chuck were she would lose them. Regina began crying. “No! No no no. No, don’t do this you can’t take them from me I love them, please!” She pleaded with the shadows, who gathered around her and formed a dark mist she could hardly see through. “No! I love them you can’t do this they’ll hate me they’ll hate me forever please. Let me explain at least let me explain!”
A hand, dark and misty, materialized in front of Regina. She wasn’t scared for herself but she was still screaming and pleading for whatever this was to let her at least explain. Somehow she knew she’d have to leave them, but she wanted to explain, she wanted them to understand! It hurt more than if she got her heart literally ripped out of her chest, she was sure of it. They were right there at the end of the hall and the hand kept coming closer and Regina couldn’t move.
When the hand touched her she was zapped. As if falling through a spiral Regina felt dizzy and confused, and when she stopped falling she was in a white room with no definition of where walls ended and floor and ceiling began. It gave off a bright light that almost hurt her eyes and she was all alone. Still crying she tried to regain her bearings, fight to go back, but soon enough she realized there were no visible walls, let alone doors, windows, trapdoors or any kind of escape. It was as though she was trapped in white light. And then she heard it.
“Regina?” It was Clive’s voice, and he kept calling her and calling her, his voice raising in urgency as their baby cried each time harder.
“Clive? Clive!” She looked around because she could hear him as if he was here, but he couldn’t see anything. “Chuck!”
They wouldn’t answer, Clive just kept calling her and Chuck kept crying and no matter how many times Regina told them she was here...they couldn’t find her. They just kept calling for her. Regina dropped to her knees, desperate as ever, hitting the floor with her fists. “CLIVE! CHUCK!” She screamed, pleaded, called, but they only kept calling her own name on the other side.
“Mama!” The sound of Chuck calling her echoed off the invisible walls, in her mind, as Regina curled into a ball and cried. It was all she could do, for they wouldn’t stop calling for her but they couldn’t hear her answer.
"I'm here...Please, I'm here..." Regina murmured, weak from so much crying. But still they would not hear her, and they kept calling...
