Better days? Farren had seen them. And they usually came with better sleep. Unfortunately, since the whole incident with Lotti shifting into a leopard of all things, Farren had not been sleeping well. Yeah, her baby sister was better now, but what if it happened again? What if it happened to any of her siblings. The wolf didn't think she could handle watching someone else go through it all over again. Especially after their mom had to go and attack Lotti the way she did. Farren couldn't imagine what losing control over her wolf would be like and she didn't want to find out. Ever. So she kept dreading waking up and feeling like she was suddenly a bitten were. Which made no sense since all of this had happened to Lotti and not her. Tell her subconscious that, though. She still couldn't sleep and she was still stuck in an incredibly grumpy and prickly mood. And what made her feel better? The same thing that made everyone on the planet feel better:
Food.
Farren dived into the diner, thankful when the smell of cooking meat reached her nose. She plopped into the nearest booth and waited patiently for her server. She gazed outside and realized that fall was not far away at all. She could smell it on the wind coming in and feel it in the cool bite to the air today. It was warm inside the diner, though, so she pulled off her denim jacket and flung it to the side. She heard her waitress walk up and she was surprised to see that if she didn't have great hearing, then she wouldn't have heard that pathetic excuse for a greeting. Now that was no way to greet a customer. Farren would know; working at Starbucks sucked, but if you didn't have a peppy attitude then you got docked. She scowled and looked the girl up and down. That's right: girl. She had to still be in high school. That might make someone else go easy on the girl, but not Farren. No the wolf was in a rotten mood as it was and she didn't need some snot-nosed kid with a bad attitude to make it worse. "How about an attitude adjustment." She didn't wait for the girl to react before she continued. "Hamburger steak, rare. No sides, no gravy, nothing. Just meat and a glass of water."
