at least i can say i tried Who: Elaine and Natalisa Where: Trailer park When: Morning
No matter how late she stayed out during the night - with the obvious exception of the full moon - Elaine was always up around the same time as the sun. Half of that could be blamed on her genes while the other half was going squarely on the shoulders of the black and white dog attached to the other end of the leash she had just grabbed off the coat rack. Cow did not see a single reason why he should let his owner sleep in when he was awake and ready for his walk. When she had still been in college it had been easier, she would walk him before her first class, and on days when she worked the same held true. But on days when she did not it meant rolling out of bed just a bit before she was ready to because experience had told her if she did not, then Cow was going to destroy something. That bitter apple spray did not work when the border collie had energy to expend. Mornings when she had softball practice were the best because she could just take him over to the park and let him run around with the kids. Served them right if he got the ball before they did and they had to chase him down; helped improve their reaction time too.
"Don't you bark at me," Elaine muttered when Cow did exactly that, turning circles in front of her as he waited excitedly for her to hook on the leash. "If I got hangovers then you would be the death of me." Another bark, this one accompanied by a few licks to her hand as she finally hooked on the leash. "Now hold on, gotta get my shoes on... no I'm not going out barefoot. Last time I stepped on broken glass." She might heal fast, but she doubted that would keep her from catching some weird disease from the probably-from-a-beer-bottle glass. Once her shoes were on she grabbed her baseball cap and threaded her ponytail through the back. "Okay, we ready?" Cow barked louder this time and wagged his tail furiously, the end steadily thumping into her leg. A human would probably get a bruise off that thing. Elaine grinned and opened the door, only to stop dead and pull a face when the heat and humidity came crashing in. Why the hell was it not autumn already? Summer needed to move on and let the cooler temperatures come in already. That and she was not a fan of the rain. Still making a face she stepped out and closed the door behind her, checking to make sure it was locked before she let Cow try to pull her down the stairs. It always seemed to surprise the dog that he could not actually do that and it was hilarious when non-were's tried to walk him. The border collie had gotten strong walking with her every day for the past few years and regular people were just not ready for him when he gave a good pull.
Elaine was all set to take her usual path when she took a deep breath and, despite the fog and water in the air, she caught a very familiar scent on the air. A grin lit up her face and she jogged to the end of the walk, peering down the road and wondering just where she was. "Come on out, Tali!" she called, one hand on her hip while Cow had the other behind her because that was not the right way to go. "I can smell you, you know." She could also smell the faint and fading scent of Derrick, but it seemed like that was always there and she half thought it was just in her head.
