With her tiny ocean rolling in the palm of her hand, Jadyn watched the small waves and felt the pressure of the past several days ebb away. The tension that had built in her body started to seep out like the water that was trailing down her legs. Water was good on its own, but the only reason that Jadyn was even allowing herself to feel this calm was because Missy was on the other line. Rina had only encouraged talking to her, trying to explain why she had reacted the way she did. And here was Missy, taking it so much better than Jadyn could have imagined when she had every right to curse and never speak to her again; Jadyn wouldn't have blamed her for that. Her eyes slid closed as Missy spoke, the shushing sound so familiar and a little comforting in an odd way. Maybe things wouldn't be exactly the way they were before, but Missy was the first person since Kevin that Jadyn was willing to even consider having a real relationship with.
She didn't understand how Missy could be so forgiving, but she was thankful for it. A soft sigh escaped her lips and she closed her hand, letting the water she had gathered spill out onto her arm. The droplets raced down her wrist toward her elbow and Jadyn felt the corner of her mouth turn up into the slightest of smiles. "Of course I do." She inhaled deeply, steeling herself to throw out another sentence. She didn't want to say it, but she needed to. It was only fair to both of them. "I-I'm still afraid. I can't change that, no matter how much I want. But I do want to see you. My want to see you is greater than my fear. I... I guess I just don't want to upset you if I'm not the usual one hundred percent, okay? I won't scream this time, though." She even managed to force out a soft laugh. She pushed herself off the steps and hopped down into the yard, the soaked ground squishing between her toes while the rain misted in her hair.
