It had been a few days since she had seen Elaine. No, that wasn't true. It had been a few days since Elaine had seen her. Even now that she had made contact with the were, Natalisa still had trouble breaking the old habit of following Elaine around. Her worry, which seemed to always remain at an unusual high were the other woman was concerned, had increased after the night she had shown up on her doorstep drunk. She may have been over two centuries old, but Natalisa could understand blowing off steam and how important that could be to someone Elaine's age, but given her recent breakup, the angel was concerned that there may have been more to it than just a night of drinking. Even if it meant never getting a solid night's sleep for the next month, she would rather Elaine come to her than drowning her troubled thoughts in alcohol. Maybe it was a habit Elaine had grown into during her absence; if that were the case, then Natalisa was going to work hard to break the other woman of it as quickly as possible. 'Is that why we're bringing flowers to Elaine? To make her happy?' Natalisa smiled as she looked down at the potted bouquet of forget-me-nots she had cradled in her hand. Tucked away, beneath the flowers, was Archie, who had insisted on hiding out from the rain amongst the plant life instead of his usual perch on her shoulders. His question was genuine, because the answer was not one that he could gather from her thoughts. Truth be told, even she wasn't sure what had inspired her to walk the distance from her house to Elaine's in the pouring rain. She had noticed the flowers blooming in her garden and remembered how much Elaine had enjoyed them when she was a girl. That still didn't explain why she had needed to take them now, as opposed to in the morning when the weather would be more agreeable. 'It will be a wonderful surprise, Archie offered, letting the question go until his angel was better able to answer it. Natalisa stopped just short of Elaine's trailer, smiling at the sight of the lights glowing from inside. There had been so many times that she had stood in this exact spot, watching the house for hours with only her imagination to tell her what was going on inside. It felt nice to know that she could knock on the door and Elaine would welcome her with open arms. She wasn't sure what she was going to do one she moved out to her new apartment. It would be disappointing to not have her charge so close by, but considering how well things were going between the two of them, she was positive that it would not mean that they would spend less time together. She would have to get to know Elaine's new roommate, however. There was no part of her that felt comfortable having the were living with someone that she knew nothing about. She moved toward the trailer, but stopped herself again before knocking on the door. 'What's wrong, Tali?' Her face had dropped into one much more serious. How had she not noticed it before? Her skin was prickling with the sense of demonic blood near by. It instantly bothered her, more because she had been so wrapped up in her own thoughts to pay attention to the sensation. Natalisa turned around and instantly spotted the source, or where the source was sitting inside of his car. Derrick. There was no other reason that she would be sensing that blood type so close to Elaine's home, at least not in her mind. "I'll be right back," she practically whispered to her familiar as she slowly bent at the waist and set the plant by the door. 'What! Tali, please take me with you! What are you going to do?' "I'm just going to have a chat. Don't worry, Arch. I'm sure everything will be okay." Natalisa believed it, but of course, she had never before had to deal with anyone -- exes or otherwise -- harassing her charges before. Head held high, and umbrella perched over her, she walked over to where the car was parked. She didn't want to think about what Derrick was doing here or why his car was sitting in a place so easily overlooked; the answer would no doubt make her angry, whereas now she was bothered more than anything else. When she didn't see him roll down the window, Natalisa bent down to peer into the driver's side. It was indeed the man that she had seen Elaine with. He was very clearly asleep, which caused her brows to furrow in annoyance. For his sake, she hoped that it was only his own dreams he was currently exploring. She took a deep breath, returning her face to something much more pleasant, and knocked on the glass to wake him up. |
