Is this seat taken? Who: Crowley and MacKenna When: Third period Where: SOHS
American high school was such a head trip.
True to his word, Treat had taken MacKenna to the public school this morning and arranged with the principal for MacKenna to sit in on classes to see if she would like it here. She'd been given a schedule, and the vice principal had even walked her to her first class to make sure she found it okay. From then on? It had all been kind of a hilarious blur. For one thing, apparently Hollywood movies did not lie and Homecoming was actually a super big deal here. And everyone appeared to be in a tizzy over it. MacKenna had spent the better part of the first period class she'd sat in on having it explained to her what Homecoming involved, and why she should be super disappointed she didn't come in in time to qualify for Homecoming queen. It all seemed fabulously ridiculous and theatrical, so naturally, MacKenna was all for it.
Her second class had been American History, and that was almost as hilarious as the Homecoming shenanigans. If she had taken a drink every time she found the word revolution in that book she would have been dead by now. And she generally had a pretty high tolerance!
By third period, she had it all down to an art. Step one: show up a few minutes late. Step two: Awe the entire room with her awesome and swag. Step three: give the teacher the principals note explaining that she was to be allowed to sit in. Step four: scope the most attractive person in the room with an empty desk nearby. Step five: make friends. Oh yes, she could easily see herself sitting atop this school's hierarchy within a few short weeks. She repeated her little routine as she walked into her third class, and had hardly even waited for the teacher's okay before she spotted a target. Tall, dark, and mysterious. She could work with that! She headed over, took a seat in the empty desk next to him, and scooted it over so the chairs were practically touching.
"Hi!" she greeted warmly, flashing that winning smile of hers. "Want to be book buddies?"
