If Fable was being honest, it wasn't like she knew everything there was about being an elemental. Not by a long shot. Until Yoko found her, she wasn't even sure what she was, much less that she was anything supernatural. All she knew was that she had a talent for gardening, a green thumb, and that it brought her happiness. She couldn't imagine going through what Brendan was, the thought of having all of it stripped away from her being a lot to handle. There were a lot of times in the last few months when Fable's elementalism brought her a lot of comfort, and that was saying something, considering all she'd lost.
Once Brendan found the tea, Fable gave him another reassuring smile. She knew it would be hard, not using any of the abilities that had become so much like a part of you that you didn't have much of a choice but to use them, but she felt it could be done. "Sit down. Try to relax. I'm going to make us each a cup." Still with Ainsley in her arms - she was a pro at multitasking with a baby by now - she filled two mugs with water and popped them in the microwave. She didn't see a proper tea kettle anywhere, which was a shame, but this would do for now. The point wasn't in having tea, exactly, but more in the routine, in helping Brendan feel a little more at ease. She wasn't sure if it would work, but she was going to try regardless.
Ainsley, on the other hand, was full of other ideas. Brendan was sad for some reason and the bitty wolf could tell, so why shouldn't she try to cheer him up? She wiggled in her mother's arms, oblivious to the fact that Fable was actually doing other things, and before her mother could stop her, Ainsley shifted. The baby resting on her hip was now a squirming little wolf puppy, shreds of the baby's clothes littering the floor, and the wolf got out of Fable's grasp, down to the floor, and went right up to Brendan as if to say, Look! I'm a cute puppy! Why are you sad when I'm a cute puppy?
Fable just froze, glancing from the wolf to Brendan to the wolf again, holding her breath, waiting to see what Brendan was going to say.
