Shit. The instant she heard the man's voice, Daisy's heart leapt into her throat. She didn't even have time to think about where he could have come from; all that flooded her mind was that she had been caught. Her fist immediately released the wad of cash it had been clutching and she slowly began to turn to face the man leaning against the door. Her arms were stuck floating halfway in the air, open for him to see that they were now completely empty and signaling that she meant absolutely no harm. "Well, um..." Daisy licked her lips as she debated if it would be better to be completely honest -- he had just caught her red handed -- or if she could come up with a good enough lie. If he had really been that angry about what she had been doing, wouldn't he have called the police before stopping her? Then again who was to say that they weren't already on their way. "I didn't know it was your money. I just thought that it was money for, like, fixing up the church or something." She lifted a foot to take a step back toward the other exit, but the step ended up as more of a shuffle. There was nothing really to stop her from running away from the church, nothing but the nagging feeling in her mind that she owned the man an explanation for her actions. The thought of Joseph suddenly sprung to mind; he was going to be so angry with her if she came home empty-handed. She would have to make a stop somewhere else to keep just that from happening, but before that, she needed to handle this awkward situation. "I just needed a little extra money. I didn't mean anything by it really."
Bringing her arms down and wrapping them around her waist, Daisy finally took that step backward. The moment she did, her face fell into even more of a frown than it already was. No, it wasn't right; she couldn't just leave as though she hadn't done anything wrong, not only because she suddenly felt as though she owed it to the pastor of the church, but also for Joseph's sake. The justification she gave herself was that if the man hadn't already called the police, then she was going to make double sure that she left things on a positive note. He had gotten a good enough look at her and Scarlet Oak was small enough that it wouldn't be too hard for authorities to track her down should he decided she needed to be punished after all. She took a step forward, and then another, as if to make up for the fact that she had edged away from him in the first place. "I'm really sorry about this. It wasn't my idea." Daisy bit her lip, feeling as though that admission alone was a betrayal to Joseph. "If there's anything I can do to make this right, just say the word."
