'cause they never play fair Who: Cole and Lilith Where: Landers home When: Late afternoon
Cole had not wanted to get up. Yesterday had not been good and he was pretty sure that no matter what attempts he had made, his parents were going to know he had spent the day at the park. And that he had gotten mad while he was there because it had taken over an hour after he got home for him to calm down enough to keep the things in his room from flying around. God only knew what other parts of the house had been affected. Obviously nothing important had broken or else someone would have beat his door down, but still. He had been content to sulk it out in his room with his music, bemoaning that no one understood him and everyone was a jerk... until he got hungry. Cole had video games, DVDs, a computer, a cell phone... but he did not have a mini fridge or even a sink and that meant that he eventually needed to break his self-enforced solitude so that he could find himself something to keep his stomach from eating itself. From the way that it was growling he was pretty sure that it was not all that far away from doing exactly that. So he had dragged himself up off his bed, turned the television that he was not even watching off and had truged downstairs.
Knowing that he was going nowhere had a major effect on Cole's wardrobe: it meant black gym shorts and a gray tanktop. His hair had been brushed, but not styled, and there was not a single piece of jewelry to be found anywhere on him. He had caught sight of himself in a mirror and thought that he looked sort of depressed. Well I'm probably gonna be. Getting expelled from school for even two days was not a commonplace event, not even for him, and he doubted that he was going to be able to go much longer without getting a talk. Not a talk about the expulsion, oh no, but about why it had happened. Sure he had been picked on, but he had not needed to respond by nearly knocking the other guy unconscious with his own books. It had just been really, really funny. Still wouldn't take it back. Poking his head around the corner into the kitchen, Cole had to stop himself from turning and running back to the stairs. His mom was right there, looking the same as she always did. When he was younger, Cole had thought that maybe he would see her turn all the way into ice one day if he did something bad enough. Now he just wondered how long it would take her to freeze him in place if he tried to run. Two seconds, I wouldn't even get out of sight. Lilith was damn fast and Cole suspected it came from being a master. Or a mother of three. Probably directly from being the mother of him.
"Heeey mom," Cole finally said, deciding to not act like he just wanted to bolt out the door. Even though he really, really did. Instead he walked to the fridge, pulled it open, looked around and settled on grabbing an apple. Very portable. If he needed to at least try bolting then at least he could take it and the juice he had picked with him. "How's your Sunday? Awesome? Sweet, I'll just be in my room." Cannot blame a guy for trying.
