Saying that Kiley hated the moons was an understatement. She didn't know which was worse - the day before the full moon, when she could feel it coming and that anxiety just curled in her stomach, or waking up the next morning feeling like she'd been hit by a freight train. The monster in her didn't realize that she was literally beating herself up the whole time she was in the cage. All that mattered was getting out, through any means necessary. She supposed it was a good thing that the cage held up, moon after moon. She'd feel even worse if somehow she got free and someone else got hurt the way she and Corwin had been.
Of course she was going to text Mason once morning came, just to see how his night went, and let him know that she was herself again and he had nothing to worry about. Hearing him say he'd come over was even better, though she didn't want him to worry when he saw her. Mason had never seen her the day after the moon, before all the bruises had healed. She could cover up most of her flaws, hiding all the scars that would forever be there, but when her face was all smashed up, it was a different story. She had just enough time to jump in the shower before Mason got there, letting the hot water soothe all the sore spots and changing into her comfy clothes. Mason wouldn't care what she looked like, not right now. She'd rather be comfortable than some prissy done up thing.
She finished braiding her hair just in time to hear the knock on the front door. This way her hair was pulled over one shoulder and the bruise over her eye wasn't quite so noticeable... she hoped. The coffee was finished brewing too, which was a good thing, because she knew they'd both need it. Kiley made her way to the door, a little bit slower than she normally would have, not because she didn't want to see Mason, but because she was sore and tired and just not up to doing much right about now. Curling up with her boyfriend, however, that she was totally doing. Grabbing the door, she gave Mason the strongest smile she could muster, waving him inside. "Hey you," she murmured, and without waiting for permission, she stood on her toes and gave him a hug. She really was happy to see him, even if she might not look it at the moment.
