This evening was the first since the "accident" that Nikita woke up without a feeling of fear turning her stomach over the second her eyes opened. She didn't think that the worry would ever truly leave her mind. There would always the voice in the back of her head, swearing over and over again that it was only a matter of time before another Rose found out. After that, her and Missy's days were numbered. The fact that Cheyenne had accepted the deal gave her peace of mind, though she could have lived without Leland being in on things. One more person to pay off; one more person to worry about keeping their mouth shut. Nikita was going to have to work doubly hard to make enough to pay off both Sol vampires and maintain her personal income. All the better, in her opinion. She was finding it harder and harder to keep herself at home these days. If she wasn't out handling her affairs herself or spending time at the Cherryblossom Place office, then she was locked away in her private office at home. Even then only Annie was allowed to see her. She hated isolating herself, but it was the only option now that she lived with three woman she had to avoid. It wasn't fair to keep herself from seeing Silvia, she knew that. The young were had no part in this, other than having the misfortune of Nikita as her adoptive mother. It was selfish of her not to explain why Kristen and Missy was staying with them, especially when the only thing that stopped her was that it would mean explaining that she hadn't been able to protect Missy; if she couldn't protect Missy, how could she possibly protect Silvia? And then there was Kristen. Just thinking about facing the young Peloe made her heart break. She would gladly take any insult that Kristen could throw at her -- Nikita deserved worse and more -- however, the the older Peloe was a different story. Though she would never say it to her face again, Nikita was sorry for what she had had to do, but that didn't mean that she had to take Missy's insults. Unfortunately, today was the day that she had to face her childe. Childe; the word felt so wrong. She would have gladly avoided her until the end of days, but Nikita needed to tell her how things were going to be and she was not going to be spending another night in one of the guest rooms. "Would you mind staying a few hours later tonight?" Nikita spoke to Annie, sitting across from her at the desk, without looking at her. "Of course. What do you need?" "Just stay with Silvia and Kristen. Make sure they get to bed." Annie nodded her head in understanding, no questions asked. Maybe I should just turn her, she thought to herself as she stopped what she was doing to look up at her assistant. What could having one more childe hurt things and good help is so hard to find. The humor failed to bring even the hint of a smile to her face. Nikita continued to watch as Annie gathered her things and left the room. She would know that what Nikita had truly been asking was for her to make sure the two young girls stay as far away from her and Missy as possible; neither of them needed to hear the horrible things that would no doubt be thrown at one another. Nikita took her time in leaving her office. She paused at the bottom of the stairs, staring upward as she smoothed out her dress. Once she caught herself, she stopped her hands immediately. There was no need to make herself look nice for Missy. Slowly she climbed up the stairs. If she had any breath at all, Nikita would be holding right now. When she reached her door, she knocked first, before cracking it just enough to let her voice through. "Missy, I'm coming in. I would appreciate it if you waited until after I said what I needed to to throw something at me." There was neither humor in her voice, nor a smile on her face as she entered the room and locked eyes with Missy. |
