Living in a trailer park for a little over a year had been an... enlightening experience. Elaine was going with 'enlightening' because she doubted there was a nicer one that would work. She had learned things she was pretty sure she would not have in an apartment, but she was tired of it. Sure, it was an entire little house all to her, but it was a trailer and whoever had lived in there before her had had a problem with their cleaning habits because there was a spot in the living room that had refused to come out and the wallpaper was just... yeah, she could have gone ahead and redecorated it if she wanted, but she so did not want to put any effort into a trailer that she did not plan on living in forever. Her current boyfriend, Derrick, liked it. He liked it so much that Elaine was seventy-five percent sure that he wanted to move in. He even had a toothbrush and some clothes in one of her drawers. That was a huge 'no' even if they had been dating since late April. None of her things were at his place unless she had genuinely forgotten them there and she had never once dropped a hint that moving in together would be a great idea, but he had started in on it. Elaine's solution to this was reading through advertisements for roommates. Okay, for people looking for roommates. Moving into an apartment would be great even if it came with another person, because then she was one step closer to single apartment. Besides, it would be way harder for Derrick to even think she was still serious if she was moving into someone else's place.
Elaine was putting so much thought into that because that was easier to think about than yesterday. When she had found herself stumbling backwards from running into her old baby-sitter, Natalisa. The one who had left and... said she was an angel. Which really, Elaine believed. The more she thought about it the more sense that it made for starters. Who had taught her to fly? Natalisa. Who had saved her countless times even though she had not even been in earshot before she got almost hurt? Natalisa. Who only showed back up in her life after all that news coverage about the "gates" opening? Natalisa. Who was a hell of a lot prettier than she remembered? Definitely Natalisa and okay brain, we're switching to apartment mode. Gotta meet this Brodie guy and make sure he's not secretly some sort of killer who wants to like, collect my eyeballs.
Checking her phone once more to make sure that she had the right apartment, Elaine bounced up on her toes and knocked. Yes, the bouncing was necessary, she had all this energy that she knew was thanks to the full moon being tonight. How awesome was it that it had finally stopped raining too? She would have been one seriously devastated little merlin if she had not had clear skies for flying in the one night of the month when she had no choice but to be a bird. The cappuccino she had in hand and was now taking another long drink of probably was not helping any. Really, as long as this guy was not uptight then she was pretty sure she could get along with him. Unless he had a cat, then her and Cow were totally out. Someone in this apartment building had a cat and even though the smell was faint and faraway it was making her skin crawl. Elaine had no idea how she would react if she was actually put into the same room as one. Even if she was big enough that she would not be an easy nom.
