Brendan had no idea how far back in his family line the elemental strain went, but that was definitely something he was curious about. Maybe one day he would do some digging -- no pun intended -- and see what he could find; he remembered one of those cheesy school projects where the teacher got you to map out a family tree, so maybe he could use that as a starting point. A loose idea, but it was something. One day, maybe, he would get on that, see if maybe he couldn't learn something along the way. It was worth a shot anyway. At this point, given how little he knew about what he could do, it certainly couldn't hurt.
There was nothing wrong with being trusting in Brendan's mind. Too many people were only looking out for themselves nowadays, they were on edge so much of the time, downright paranoid and unwilling to open up or even make eye contact with anyone around them, so it was nice to meet someone who was like him, who didn't mind talking to a stranger. Mad parenting skills, indeed, because Brendan watched her, knowing without a shadow of a doubt that he just didn't have what it took to juggle a baby and another item like that; he would have to concentrate on the child at all times, for fear of dropping them. "I'm Brendan. Nice to meet you." He reached out and took her free hand, adding with a smile as he looked at the baby, Ainsley, "Both of you."
