brendan scott ( earth elemental ) . (liveandlearn) wrote in light_of_may, |
Brendan's parents might have been completely and totally unwilling to teach him what it was to be an elemental, but they had made a point, early on, of teaching him manners, and just general courteous behaviour. It wasn't even something Brendan registered as going out of his way at all, even if others might see it that way, especially with how everyone was so caught up in their own lives nowadays. It didn't occur to him that he was in a minority in that way, that his natural compassion and consideration for others might be seen as strange in any way. Sure, he had noticed that most people didn't do the little things he did, and in fact he was fairly convinced he had already heard at least one -- if not more -- disgruntled tones when it came to sharing tables here this afternoon. That had struck him as strange. Someone had once said that strangers were just friends you hadn't met yet, and that was generally a good way to look at things, especially on days like today when places were going to get crowded and, if you weren't already in a pair or a group, you were probably going to end up sharing your claimed space.
"I don't mind at all," he told her with a smile, laughing a little at the baby's demand for attention. "There's plenty of room for two more. She doesn't look like she takes up much room anyway." He gave a little nod in the baby's direction, even though it had probably been pretty obvious who he'd meant by that.
