Kristen didn't care what time of the day it was unless it was the time when she got to go home to where Missy was. Which wasn't even home, not really, it was Nikita's. There were several reasons that that actually bothered Kristen and she didn't want to look too hard at any of them. But she had. Because it was lunch-time and she wasn't eating her lunch, she was idly poking at it and slumping on the bench. No, she wasn't hungry. She was worried. Missy had told her that she didn't like vampires, that she hunted them, and she was staying at a vampire's house. Yeah, Kristen thought that Nikita was really cool and she wanted to trust her, but that didn't mean Missy did. Missy probably didn't at all. Missy was probably really, really angry that Kristen had told a vampire to go and help her. She'll be mad at me but that's okay. Kristen would be fine with Missy being mad at her because no matter what she was she'd be alive and that was what mattered. Kristen just wanted her big sister to be alive and okay and --
The small blonde blinked at the sound of feet approaching and ducked her head a little lower, focused on her tray. If she focused there then they'd just go away and leave her alone like she wanted. She didn't want anyone to sit with her. It didn't bother her that she didn't really have that many friends and why should it? Other kids were weird or all excited all the time or they liked stupid things on the TV instead of art or gymnastics. Her teachers said that Kristen's ability to focus and devote herself made her special; the other kids said it made her weird. Yet when she noticed that the feet that had stopped weren't going away she slowly lifted her eyes to see who it was. Briony and Bubbles. Bubbles she'd met before school started and Briony... Briony was even weirder than her. Kristen didn't think that she liked her or the way that she made her feel just by being around. "Hi," Kristen offered at last. "Um, you want to sit with me?" Missy would've told her that it was a good thing to socialize with the other girls and be friendly. It was normal and they were supposed to at least try to be normal. So she was trying even if she didn't want to be anything but alone then.
