Days feel harder, nights grow longer Who: Darklis and Rina Where: Home When: Early morning
On rainy days Rina liked to watch the east to see if she could tell that the sun was coming up. If the clouds were light enough then she could see it growing lighter, but if they were dark then there was hardly any difference at all. She remembered very clearly that when she had been much, much younger she had snuck into her parents room and tugged on her mother's hand with a definite concern that the sun was not going to come up today because the sky was all black. As Rina walked home in the rain, sandals dangling from one hand while Trouble dozed on her shoulder, she remembered that day that happened almost a century ago. Lynde had smoothed back Rina's bed-mused hair before assuring her that the sun would always come up even if she could not see it. Because that was what the sun did, it rose every day and set every night so that they could all live their lives by its clock. Her mother had been a very firm believer that one needed a good night's sleep if they were to be at their best for the day that followed. Her mother had also been made of sterner stuff than Rina, if you asked Rina herself, and the patron was certain that her mother would have never gotten into a fight with a demon and not killed them. Lynde was... 'are we home yet?' The sleepy thought derailed Rina's own and she blinked at Trouble before glancing around to see if they were.
"Getting close. Why, are you tired of being out in the rain?" Rina's voice was quiet, but she found it easier to talk than to think right then. Her thoughts had a way of getting tangled and lost when she had gone so long without sleep. And with Trouble being so sleepy she doubted that she would be able to pull her back on track every time.
'I'm a cat, I'm always tired of being out in the rain.' There was a shifting on her shoulder then a few tiny pinpricks as the small cat kneaded her claws there before sitting up. 'I very clearly remember something. And it's important.'
"What's that?"
'You're supposed to be sleeping. Darklis said so.'
Rina sighed and slowed her walk a little. Yes, she knew that she was supposed to be sleeping, but it was so hard. If she stopped to sleep then she knew that all the thoughts about what had happened at the bridge would catch up to her and give her new nightmares that she truly did not desire. Was it so very wrong to not want to give into those? Maybe Darklis would have been so caught up in something artistic that she was doing that she would not have noticed that her cousin was not asleep in her bed. Again. 'Yeah right.' Rina wondered if anyone had been given a compliant and agreeable familiar instead of one who decided to contradict every thought that one had. 'I feel bad for them if they did, that'd be boring. And you know, you're not making the most sense right now. I think there's something to this needing sleep thing.' Shaking her head, the angel started up the sidewalk. Perhaps she could distract Darklis off the topic by saying that she had met two other angels in the past two days...
