Kept safe inside your walls
Who: Dalila and Niamh
Where: Lander's home
When: After school
Dalila would have liked to go on acting like the exploded street and bridge was not big deal, that she hardly cared about it because why should she? The biggest problem with that was that a few of her friends had been caught up in it and hurt by it. None of her family, thankfully, but her friends. Including two of her fellow water elementals and, when she stopped to think about it, Dalila always thought just a little higher of them automatically. She had not known many water elementals back in New York and coming to Scarlet Oak, finding other water elementals near her age, had been a true delight for her. Niamh Landers was wonderful to sit by the water or sulk with - something had happened to her ribs when she had been thrown off the bridge - and Dagmar Niemi just gave off the most chill vibe that Dalila had ever come across - she had cracked ribs and internal damage that was keeping her in the hospital until they were sure she was not going to start coughing up blood. See, things like that made Dalila acknowledge that something bad had happened. Actually going to see one of them was going to make it hit a little harder since she was pretty sure that cracked or broken ribs did not just heal themselves in a few days. Unless you were a were like Rico, but neither of them were. She only had to worry about one of them right then though. Dagmar was still in the hospital and the last thing that Dalila wanted to do with her time was go to Ann Arbor to visit the hospital. She hated hospitals. Instead she had decided that she was going to go and see Niamh. One, she was closer and two, there was no hospital involved. Everyone won that way.
Except for Jaws, who had been left at home in his tank. He may have insisted that he was fine, but Dalila had developed a very sudden - and possibly short-lived - paranoia that something would happen to him if she kept letting him tag along in her water bottle. She was not going to commit accidental suicide because of a stubborn fish. Hey that applies twice! Because of Rico...
Tugging at her still damp hoodie, Dalila shut off the car and slid the keys into her pocket before sliding out. She paused for a moment to let the rain soak her all over again, enjoying the feel much more today than she had had yesterday. Yesterday had been for moping by the river, today was for saying hi to Niamh and making sure that she was not some sort of permanently damaged. Because that? Would be depressing and Dalila was not at all lined up to have a depressing senior year. She had already done the mix of depressing and school. Once was enough for anyone. Once she reached the door she hit the doorbell and rocked back on her heels, wondering who was going to let her in. Could people with busted ribs walk? ...wait, she should really know the answer to that question since she had had them once. Yeah, sorry self, wasn't really paying attention to the ribs situation at the time. Whatever, someone had to let her in.
