She wasn't an alpha and she wasn't in charge of anyone else's safety personally. Professionally, she was a firefighter. She was charged with keeping her town and the people in it safe. Mostly it was fighting fires and helping out with accidents. This was something no one could have seen coming. Part of her felt like she should have seen it coming but they weren't that big of a place. They weren't New York or any other major city like that but they were known for their support of supernatural rights. Maybe that's what caused them to be a target. Not that it really matter why they were.
