No one had expected this to happen in Scarlet Oak, and that was the problem, wasn't it? They had been caught unawares -- or with their pants down, as William might have put it -- and now they were stuck dealing with the fallout of something that never should have happened in the first place. Mason was frustrated about that, it struck a chord in him that he didn't like being touched upon, and more than anything he hated feeling uneasy for any reason. He was Alpha of the Normandin Pack now, it was his responsibility to watch out for them, and then there was Kiley. God help everyone if she had been caught up in this mess.
Leaning on the desk, but subconsciously making it appear as though it was out of choice rather than necessity, Mason turned his head to look the woman in the eye again. "That's what I'm waiting to hear. She was pretty messed up when we got her out." And then the woman went on to comment on his physical condition, which stirred the dominant wolf in him, the side that didn't like physical weakness, let alone anyone else noticing it. Thankfully, Mason didn't even so much as growl. "I've had worse." At least he could hold his own weight right now. When he'd first damaged his knee, he hadn't been able to even attempt that much, and the agony had been all but blinding. Compared to that, what he felt right now was nothing. "What they don't know what hurt them," he added, in regards to her family.
