Who: Raven and Sasha, mention of Raven's sisters Mausi and Fala (npcs) Where: Snow White Sweets When: Mid Afternoon
Raven bounced on her feet as she baked in the back of the sweets shop with her sister Fala. She had spent the morning creating peace sign-shaped cookies, heart-shaped chocolates, brightly coloured cupcakes that looked as if they'd been tie-dyed, and the like. It was a peace, love and happiness theme she had decided on; dedicated to being the exact opposite of everything the bombers wanted. It was as if she wanted to destroy all the ugliness of that day by making pretty things. Perhaps she should have run it by her mother first; she was simply accustomed to following her own impulses. So far, two of her sisters had been the only family members to see them and they hadn't complained. It was a good sign: Mausi was the more uptight twin. If she didn't mind, odds were that the rest of her family wouldn't mind either. Besides, the regular items were still available to customers as well, a result of Fala's work.
"Raven, Fala. I need to go now." Mausi called out, having made plans for the rest of the day. "Can one of you come out to the front?"
"Um. Yeah. I'll do it" Raven replied, her tone indicating that she wasn't happy with the idea. She made her way out to the front carrying a tray of her latest creations. "But you're working in the front all of the next shift we work together." She added as she looked around. She didn't mind interacting with people; but interacting with customers tended to make her nervous. Mausi was calmer and made a better impression. Raven could ask Fala to come out, but the attacks had made her worry more about her younger siblings and she felt her other sister was somehow safer in the back. At least Raven could offer the occasional free treat to the rescue workers and volunteers, working on the collapsed bridge, while she was at the cash. And to the pregnant Sasha if she happened to stop by.
"Um. Yeah." Mausi retorted, sarcastically mirroring what her sister's earlier reply. "See you later...unless you need me to stay? I know it's your first day back."
"It's fine. I'm fine." Raven forced a smile. She still had some pain but staying home or taking pity would have made her crazy. A couple of days off had been more then enough. "Fala's here. And the doctor said it was okay to go back to work as long as I didn't do any heavy lifting. So unless you made some of your ninety-pound pound-cakes, I can handle things."
Mausi rolled her eyes. "They're supposed to be dense."
"Not that dense." Raven kidded.
"Oh, you're dense." Mausi shot back. They were both smiling. After all that had happened, it felt good to joke around again.
"Go, have fun before I change my mind and guilt you in to saying." Raven ordered her.
Mausi nodded, and left, giving her sister one last glance over her shoulder as she walked out the door.
Raven set her tray down and began putting her freshly baked treats on display; keeping herself busy while she waited for a customer.
