Micah smiled at the demon. His instincts were repelled by her; told him to run away but he couldn't really do so until he felt like he had good reason to. Traces of his angelic lineage, possibly, though probably more habit than DNA if one were to be completely honest. If only Micah knew he was facing an Advocate. While he may not be quite desperate enough to give up his soul to the devil, he did have quite a few things on his wish list. Oh, to have Naomi back. Or his life and his soul in his body. To stop smelling like death or whatever else Oz had smelled on him. Micah never voiced these thoughts, though he considered them often. It felt like betrayal to be unhappy with what he'd been dealt in life. He wasn't sure who exactly he was betraying but the emotion was more overwhelming than his sense of desperation, if that was the right word.
"Don DeLillo thought it was built with ratchet drills and whipsaws," Micah responded rather facetiously. Of course, the man had later discovered otherwise, but that wasn't important. Micah had admittedly read very little of the book and only knew about it because he worked in a bookstore and sometimes you heard things about books in them. Fancy that. "I mean, it's one day of high school. I don't think I'm exactly trading in my entire education just yet. I just like to try to help where I can." While coming from anyone else, the response may have held a hint of sarcasm, coming from Micah it was as innocent as the driven snow. He meant what he had said and he had said more or less what he had meant to say. "You gotta have a little more faith in people," he suggested with a smile.
And then there was the matter of the books. But! He could put it off. She wanted to know about alligators. Why on earth she would, he had no clue but he was here to serve the customers what they wanted. "I'll take care of the books later," Micah said dismissively. If they weren't Bibles, he would have no problem at all. He tried not to look nervous. "Let me go look that up," he added, referring to the book about alligator maintenance. He gestured towards the front counter and walked ahead of the lady to look it up, not giving her the opportunity to insist he clean up first. He typed in 'alligator' and read through the list of options. "I don't think I see one for the care of alligators...in fact, I don't think they're recommended as pets but I do have some generic books about reptiles in general if you're still interested in those?"
