Jackson smiled at her response, and the sound of the laugh that accompanied it. Too often Jackson's mind played tricks on him nowadays, making him believe that people's laughter was scathing or that there was something else behind it, but Lauren's sounded so genuine that he couldn't help but smile. "I plan to do the same with my truck," he said, though technically speaking it wasn't his truck, "but it's a lot newer than this car. So on the plus side, parts are easier to get hold of." That didn't mean Jackson would know what to do with the parts if he got his hands on them, and of course right now there was the small issue of being able to afford such things. Thankfully the truck didn't need that kind of attention, and hopefully it wouldn't for a long time, either.
As the car's engine quieted and the vehicle stilled, Jackson glanced out of the window and up towards the clouds that were still pouring rain down on everyone and everything with God knew what distance, but he turned his head back to Lauren enough to ensure she would see his nod. Long after she bolted out of the car, Jackson did the same -- making sure to lock the door as he went, as she'd instructed -- and quickly crossed the distance between the parked vehicle and the promise of shelter the overhang provided. A little more rain wouldn't have mattered much at this point, he was already pretty soaked, but he didn't want to test to see if it really was possible to get even wetter than he had been five minutes ago.
Jackson glanced at Lauren as she emptied her boots. At least he didn't have that problem, not to the same extent anyway. "Maybe the rain will stop while we're inside." A futile hope, but it wouldn't hurt to keep their fingers crossed, would it?
