She wasn't wrong, it was still bad luck, but Jackson had had more than his fair share of that since the Light of May, a grim reality he was still struggling to come to terms with. Whether or not it would continue had yet to be seen, but Jackson hoped things were beginning to take a turn. The few pleasant encounters he had had since arriving in town gave him some semblance of hope, but he wasn't so naive as to think everything would be easy from this point on. A small handful of good people and their generally decent behaviour didn't just erase what had happened, and there was no way Jackson would be forgetting any of it either.
Between the two of them it was easy enough to get the tire changed and by the time they were finished Jackson had stopped noticing the rain and just how soaked he was. The discomfort had long since passed, and being able to concentrate on the task of helping to change a tire had been a pleasant distraction, even if only a brief one. Her offer, unexpected as it was, actually gave him pause, and he considered it for a few moments, weighing the pros and cons. There weren't many of either, it turned out, but one outweighed the other, resulting in his saying, "Sure. Thanks. That'd be great." He was hungry, now that he thought about it, and the offer seemed genuine, along with her gratitude, so why not take her up on it? "I'm Jackson, by the way," he said, realising they hadn't introduced themselves yet. "I'd offer my hand, but we're both soaked enough as it is."
