Oh, yeah. Softball was really big in Finland. Kajsa nodded. She tended to forget that little tidbit. Honestly, Kajsa was not as in tune with her Finnish self as most of her family was, and most certainly not like her mother. Then again, Kajsa supposed they were full Finnish while she was only half. She assumed. She had no idea who her father was or what he was like...if his mother had had an affair or if she really loved him. All she knew was that whatever parts of her didn't look like Linnea, looked like him...and he had her eyes. Sometime while Kajsa was thinking about her father, Pastor Daniel had started talking about Dagmar. Kajsa started nodding along, trying to catch up in conversation. Oh, Dagmar. Kajsa's bottom lip quivered just the tiniest bit at the thought of being alone at home. She reflected that the last time she'd had a decent conversation with her mother, it had been rather rude and Linnea had probably cried herself to sleep after that. Kajsa didn't think herself that important but she'd always figured her mother was very sensitive when it came to those things.
The thought of being home alone with Linnea horrified her. Somewhere deep inside, it even repulsed her. Kajsa wondered what was wrong with her. She needed to listen to what Pastor Daniel was saying. She felt better when he talked. Pastors do have a really positive aura around them, she reflected. Erroneously. He asked after Dagmar. "I don't think today, no. Visiting hours should be over soon...but I think I'll visit her tomorrow. And bring her these," Kajsa clutched the rootbeer barrels closer to her chest like they could protect her. "She'd like that, I think. I'm very glad I ran into you today, Pastor," Kajsa added that little bit at the end. She had consciously said the words but she was surprised she'd said them. It was true, yes, but she usually didn't just randomly blurt things out like that. Especially not to the religious. She was glad, however, for the opportunity to go to church and perhaps fill a void she'd been missing for a while. She nodded and decided to go home in her head...but her feet just stood there for a while, waiting for...some kind of permission from Pastor Daniel. Which was weird. But...it seemed like the right thing to do.
