She didn't ask how he was. Not that Naoki had particularly expected her to, considering what their relationship actually was, but the fact that she expressed more desire to see Snowball, his familiar, his dog, of all things, that did hit home. Anyone else might have been able to put up a poker face and act like it didn't bother them, but this was Naoki, which meant he could be read like an open book. And he really wasn't surprised that she was barking orders at him, either, because that was also to be expected. At least she was signing to him, which honestly was easier for him than talking, most of the time. It certainly came to him more naturally now and was a step up from reading lips.
'Snowball will not jump in your lap, I will make sure of that.' Snowball would be excited, yes, but even the dog knew Liliya was not exactly in tip-top shape right now. She'd be more likely to run around in circles around the wheelchair and bring Liliya a squeaky toy. How the ever-calm Naoki got such a hyperactive familiar, he would never know. 'I know I have a hat in the car that would work. Give me a few minutes, I'll be back with those for you.' He bowed to her after that and left the room, ignoring the nurses as he made his way to get the things Liliya had requested. Naoki returned a few minutes later with said wheelchair and hat, a large wide-brimmed one that would be sure to keep the sun off her face. Better than some ugly baseball cap, in Naoki's opinion, but then again, that was one of those American style things he'd never quite understood before coming to the country. 'Will this work for you?'
