The day had been a relaxed one and Nikita had not one problem with that fact. She had not left Silvia's side since the were had come home yesterday after the bridge. Those few nights when she had had the privilege of being home in time to tuck Silvia in, Nikita would linger just a moment before returning to her office for most of the night, but last night she had held her new daughter while she slept, waiting until daybreak to nod off herself. She woke up much earlier than what was normal for her. A vampire up while the sun was still high in the sky was not the most pleasant of things to be around, but Nikita kept her grumpiness at bay whenever Silvia spoke to her. Besides, the young were didn't seem to mind too much that she cat-napped on the couch beside her while they watched television together. Neither of them moved for hours. Nikita kept Silvia with snacks and drink -- what she would eat of it -- that were brought to them. It was late afternoon before Nikita had to get up. Her joints felt achy and what blood that was inside of her felt stagnant from not moving through her freely. After she made sure that Silvia was okay, perhaps a little too insistently, she took a walk through the house over to her office. Nikita stood there, staring out the window that faced out into her yard, lost in her thoughts. The shock of almost losing Silvia had hit her hard. In all her years, there had been few people to come into her life whose death, she felt, would shake her to the core. Katia, though she had learned to live without her, was her sire and her passing would leave a giant hole in her life. Of course, there was Missy. Nikita swallowed the hurt and anger down hard at the thought of the other woman's name. No, she wasn't going to acknowledge how much her death would impact her. All those times she had shot at her, missing her by only sheer luck, had been on purpose. And that one time she did hit her? Yeah, totally intentional. Nikita shut her eyes and shook her head, ignoring the thought that she had been just about to call Missy's phone the day before when the Aussie had shown up on her television, proving that she was more than safe. She didn't want to think about these things, but the thoughts refused to leave her alone. Nikita threw herself down into the chair behind her desk. Like a child, she allowed herself to turn slowly around in a circle. When it came to business companions, she had more than her fair share, but as for friends... Those that she would have called such were either preoccupied or had left town. Had Annie not been sent home earlier last night, Nikita may have been tempted to sit with her for a while, though on second thought she decided that it was better she not blur the lines between employer and employee. She stopped her turn and stared hard at the phone. Who then could she call? Nikita punched the digits to Kiara's phone and listened as the dial tone rang and rang until she heard the familiar Irish accent on the other end. "Kiara, it's Nikita. Are you free for a little while this afternoon? I have a bottle of scotch and a six-pack of Guinness with your name on it if you're interested." She paused a moment running her tongue over her teeth. Was she worried that the other woman would say no? Yes. The decision to invite Kiara over had been purely a whim, no more weight to it than that, but that didn't mean that Nikita wanted to hear her invitation refused. "I'd also be interested in more blood if you're selling." Being a businesswoman herself, Nikita knew that she would be hard pressed to refuse the opportunity to make a deal. "I'll send a car around to pick you up." She waited in the room until she heard the ring of the door bell, jumping up the second the sound hit her ears. Her journey to the door took her first to the living room where she once again checked on Silvia and let her know that she would only be a little while longer. A pleasant smile, one that was more genuine than that which she painted on for business, found it's way to her face when she threw open the door to greet Kiara. "Glad you could make it. Sorry I look so drab, but it's been a low-key day today. Come inside." Her words were paired with an open armed gesture that pointed Kiara's way into her office. "I trust you've been well since we last spoke." |
