Just wish I could heal the hurt
Who: Caelia and Rina
Where: The park
When: Morning
The memory of Darklis' blood-stained clothes and how weak the woman - she could not think of her as a 'girl' no matter how much she looked like one since she was older than her - had been when Rina had returned home had kept her from finding sleep. Which was really probably for the better. Rina would have just woken up constantly to go and peek in on her cousin to make sure that she was still alright and did not need anything else. It was true that seeing her cousin hard at work painting or drawing or whatever it was she was doing was a little... disconcerting, but Rina still had to check. Normal humans could appear to be perfectly fine for a length of time until their injuries caught up to them and they just dropped. Rina wanted to make sure that did not happen. Even if some of those images she glimpsed, because she had ducked her head every time, had made it a fact that she was not going to be sleeping anytime soon. 'You can't protest sleep,' Trouble put in. Now that surprise Rina. She thought that her familiar had been asleep on her pillow when she had poked her head into Darklis' room to inform her that she was going out for a walk. Not back to the scene, oh no, she could not go back there without risking a breakdown that would end in terrible ways for her, but just to the park. Being around fresh-growing and living things was always soothing to her and sometimes a simple garden was not as good as a park full of trees. 'Or you can,' the small cat added as Rina turned and scooped her up, placing her on her shoulder. Trouble fit well there and seemed to enjoy being able to use her hair as a sort of shield. 'But it's going to happen eventually. You're not Darklis, you can't just avoid sleep forever. You need it.'
"You'd be surprised how long an angel can go without sleeping," Rina murmured as she let her feet carry her along the somewhat-familiar path to the park. She had been there a few times since her arrival, usually in the morning, and tended to find it peaceful and relaxing. So long as she stayed away from the part that had all of the play equipment because that was where the children were and, dear as they were, she could not expose herself to them for long without her eyes starting to sting. After yesterday she imagined that it would only take one head of blonde hair or a girl holding a doll for her to break down and the point of coming to the park instead of turning towards Ann Arbor was to avoid that break. "It's very long. Once I don't think that I slept for a week." How she had felt at the end of that week, though... "Don't worry, Trouble, it's only a thought. I'll sleep." She always did. And she quite usually ended up regretting it as well.
'You should just think about happy things before you go to sleep.' Trouble was licking her paw, though she kept making little discontent noises since Rina's continuing to walk meant that she was getting a little jolted. 'Like how fluffy and warm I am, that's a happy thought. Another happy thought are those cartoons that are on the television that I watch sometimes. You should watch more of them with me, you'd be-' Rina nodded her head and let the words of her familiar trickle through as she glanced around the park, breathing in deeply. Trouble could carry on forever if you let her and she did not even need to stop to take a breath since she used none when she transferred her thoughts. It really was very fascinating how that worked. Rina could have stayed on that for the rest of the morning had she not turned her head at just the right moment to see a woman walking in the other direction. And, as it had done several times already, everything stopped for just a moment. Trouble was forgotten, the ring she was twirling around her finger was released and she started to turn without even consciously registering that she was doing it. 'Rina?'
"Shhh, Trouble," Rina replied distractedly. That woman right there was undeniably one of her own. She had been wrongly accused of being insane and there was something undeniably unbalanced about her. Because of the insanity claim? It was highly disheartening to learn that that was still going on somewhere in the world. Rina did not just step up to her, but moved ahead and around a tree so that she could come back on the same path and - oh. There was something vaguely familiar about her face. No, Rina had never seen her before, she would remember, but there was some features that she had seen somewhere else. Recently too. 'The girl with the bird.' There was a way to find out and it would get her attention without Rina needing to just walk up and say 'hi' out of nowhere because there was, quite literally, no way that she could just let her keep walking at the risk that she would not be able to find her again. "Is that you, Cheila?"
