Not just Madeleine, but Althea as well. Zaviar supposed that it should not surprise him that she would bring her familiar over. Althea was a snake and even though at times she could be a little - 'You're doing that thing where you don't think about what you really want to because you don't think that you should. Even though-' Zaviar was really getting rather good at shutting the dog out of his mind when he really wanted to. Or Knight was cooperating because he just knew how much Zaviar did not want to have to put up with him right then. He really was just relieved that Madeleine was there. That she looked completely fine and unharmed. Except for that part where she seemed to be angry, expected, and taking it out on him. In a way. Expected. Women had a way of doing that from what Zaviar had noticed. It was unfair that she was angry at him when he had not done anything. Yes, he had been gone for what appeared to be quite a bit of time after a disaster, but he had not consciously checked out. He had done something that had been extremely rare ever sine he stopped being a child - shifted into his hybrid form against his will because he was upset about something. And that something so happened to be a person. Which meant that he cared about her more than he did the rest of the world. That? Was not something that Zaviar knew how to express even in his own thoughts, to just himself, much less to Madeleine.
"When I couldn't find you I became upset." Blunt and simply, but true. Zaviar hit the 'delete' button on the answering machine and nudged Knight out of the way so that he could walk over to the living room, stopping about a foot away from Madeleine. "Very upset." He glanced down at himself, figuring that the mess really gave away what had happened. No normal activities would shred his clothes in this way or leave him without shoes. "Very upset. I lost control and shifted and then I don't know what happened, as I always don't know what happens. I woke up about twenty minutes ago and came home to change; then I was going to go to your house." Obviously that was no longer necessary since she was stood right there. His face twinged and he reached up to touch the too-smooth and sore place. "I think I was burned in the explosion. And I am very tired." Did it go without saying that he had likely killed someone? Yes, in his mind it did, because that tended to be the end result of him shifting into his hybrid form. Knight leaned against his leg again with a quiet whine that went ignored by the were. One step closer and he reached up his cleaner hand to touch Madeleine's cheek; enjoying the warmth as he always did. Even the idea of apologizing was foreign to him so the silence stretched for a moment before he broke it. "Were you hurt at all?" No. The answer had to be no.
'Althea?' Knight moved away from Zaviar and closer to where Althea was. 'Zaviar is thinking far too much.'
