The fact that Lux's whole body stilled at Troy's slight touch had the earth elemental holding his breath. Had he been wrong to touch her? He was an affectionate person by nature and he had only meant to reach out to her, to help ease her distress. The words that followed made him hurt for her, and he had no idea what to say at first. He opened his mouth to say something, but then she'd turned towards him and grabbed his hand. Despite all of Troy's abilities, he found himself unable to speak for a moment. Feeling it was just better to let her rant, Troy just gave her a soft sort of look, waiting until he felt she was done speaking. Troy could see the tears that started in her eyes and that was what undid him. Slowly, gently, he moved to wrap one of his arms around Lux's shoulders, the hand that she had grabbed moving to stroke the soft skin of her wrist. "Shhh, I know." Troy's pulse was up in his throat; he had never felt more out of his depth in his life! His arm squeezed her close, and his voice was soft, soothing. "You did what you could, Lux, no one can blame you for leaving. I don't, and I know damn well that Simon wouldn't either." Every part of Troy was screaming that this wouldn't be enough to calm the woman down, but he would try just about anything to make her feel better. "It reminds me of him, too." Squeezing her hand in his, Troy smiled very slightly down at Lux, hoping she knew that he was here for her.
"I was serious when I said I would help you look for him. If it would make you feel better, you know I'd help." The tone in Troy's voice was for Lux alone. Did she know how much she meant to him? His heart in his throat, Troy felt the words coming up before he could stop them. "I'd do anything to make you happy." His voice was soft, pitched to carry only to Lux's ears, even though the sound from the movie might have made it seem like a whisper. His pulse thudded dully in his ears, admitting what he'd felt for years. Please let this be the right thing to say.
