before i slip away, can somebody help me
Who: Daisy and Rina
Where: Broadway Bridge, Ann Arbor
When: 11:37 and on
Truth be told, Daisy didn't have the slightest clue what was going on. She had gotten up early, earlier than usual, and decided to go for a walk. Under normal circumstances, Daisy would have been happy to stay in bed, asleep or not, if it meant being close to her love for a few extra hours, but this morning she felt anxious. All night long she had dreamt of houses; she had gone through different places, trying them out like Goldilocks from the fairy tale. When Daisy finally opened her eyes, she was itching to start looking for a new home for the two of them. After pressing a kiss to Joseph's forehead and leaving a note on the pillow beside of him, she went out the door to begin her search. One sidewalk led to another, one street ended and she was on the next; before Daisy knew it she was on a bridge amongst a great mass of people walking across it. Her attention was so easily stolen by all the different kinds of people that had grouped together. There was a smile plastered on her face that stretched from ear to ear as she looked at all those around her; it never occurred to her to stop and ask what exactly she was apart of. Then there was a loud boom and the world around her felt like it was falling apart. The cement beneath her was jerked out from under her feet and Daisy was sent flying to the sidewalk, but not out of harms way. Everything happened so fast that she didn't have time to actually think about what was happening to her before everything went dark. It was minutes before the sound of sirens and screams caused Daisy to open her eyes again. At first she thought it had all been a dream, that she was still back at the hotel with Joseph, but the sensations of pain that hit her in waves told her otherwise. First was her head. As she gained consciousness, the more it throbbed. Then was her spine. Her old injury was screaming out in objection to the blow that had been dealt to it. The memory of being in the hospital, of the physical therapy to help her walk -- Please not again... She couldn't go through that a second time. Tears started to form in her eyes and she tried to breathe, but something was keeping her lungs from expanding fully. It was then that Daisy realized there was a piece of cement pinning her to the ground. She attempted to bring her arms up or turn, anything to push it up off of her. A scream ripped through her when she realized that something else was on her leg, bending it in a manner that all kinds of unnatural. Her eyes were now filling with tears and when she shut them tight, they spilled down her cheeks. She was scared, beyond scared, and all she could think of was how much she wished Joseph was with her right now. "Joey..." The whimper was choked in her throat as her silent sobs stole what little breath she had. "Somebody, please help." Her words came out as barely a whisper. Daisy's heart was starting to pound in her chest and everything was starting to go black again. She didn't want the dark to come back again for fear of what would happen the next time she opened her eyes -- if she opened her eyes. "Help me!" Her voice strained as she tried one last time to call out. Her voice sounded out as one of many others that were pleading the same. She couldn't die here; she couldn't leave Joseph all alone. |
