Just a perfect day, you've made me forget myself Who: Niamh and Cole and opento any mermaid/man who wants to come play Where: The Broadway Bridge/the Huron River When: Shortly after 11:37am
Niamh knew some of her friends would be around here somewhere, but she had chosen to come to this march with her brother Cole instead. It had not been too discussed at home, and it had almost been a last minute decision for them to come together, but seeing as the media would be covering the march, she thought it might be somehow beneficial for her to appear on television among the other 'supernatural beings'. Of course there was a fair dose of pride involved.
She had been walking along, wholly distracted by her own thoughts that had nothing to do with this march in the least, when blasts that seemed to blow through her chest were heard, and felt. And then she was falling, and her brain did not seem to be working. It was all very confusing; consciously or subconsciously, Niamh had no idea what was going on. She just felt herself getting hit by heavy bits of...something, and then a free fall.
Then, water. It was like the embrace of a loved one, all around her, taking her away from the chaos. Niamh had closed her eyes some time after the blast and still did not open them, the noises all around her muffled by the water. For a few minutes, she was at peace, but still in the same confused state. A little bit later, it was like waking up. She was deep in the water, and when she attempted to remember where she had been just minutes before, Niamh was able to realize she must be in the river below the bridge. How, she had no idea. She was just thankful she couldn't drown, because something within her wanted to keep her underwater as long as she could hold on down there. But then, curiosity got the best of her, and Niamh did not really like to feel this confused, this lost. She felt safe in the water but in no way safe in the world at the moment.
Resurfacing was like another shocking blast for her, as the noise filled her ears where water had been before, and she could smell smoke, and hear despair. Then, she opened her eyes. It was like the scenery of a very accomplished war movie, and she wouldn't have minded being in the middle of one of those...if it was a movie. This wasn't. Shortly after opening her eyes Niamh realized she could only fully open one of them, and while she had been able to kick her feet upward to resurface, moving her left arm left her with pain the likes of which she had never felt before. And then there was her chest - heavy and aching. She could barely breathe.
Looking up, Niamh saw the remnants of the blown up bridge and a couple of theories came to her, none of which were important right now. What was important was that the bridge had collapsed, and people were dropping on the river all around her, more seemed to be barely holding onto the bridge itself and...some of those around her were dead. Or at least unmoving. She swam with one arm towards the closest person only to find them head down, motionless, with a pool of blood spreading through the water around them. With only one arm Niamh couldn't turn this person around, but judging from the blood, that might not have made any difference. Luckily this person did not seem to have brightly colored hair, so at least it wasn't her brother. But still...where was he?
It was probably best to try and swim ashore and then look for Cole, although the heaviness in her chest and her 'mysteriously disabled' arm weren't going to help her there. She tried, for a while, but the shore was too far away.
"Help!" Niamh yelped, unable to scream or project her voice like they teach you in drama class. The air wasn't coming in or out as it should. "Help!" She tried again. Nobody was going to hear her, though, she was pretty sure. And where was her damned brother? "Cole!" Please don't be one of these floating bodies. "Cole!"
