But mommy I don't want to go to school today
Who: Cole and Lilith
Where: Landers' home
When: Early morning
Last night had been awful. It had been meant to be awesome, a party at a cool new hotel, and Cole had even remembered to bring Bunny along for an extra bonus. But awesome was the last thing that it had been and he was going to lay the blame firmly at the feet of a blond boy and redheaded girl. Technically he was pretty sure that he should not blame Angeline since she had just started dating Locke without knowing anything else, but he wanted to blame her way more than he did Locke. Why? Because he liked Locke whereas Angeline was pretty unknown and therefore he could form an opinion of her without feeling anything like bad about it. Sure she seemed sort of nice, but Bunny did not seem to really like her and the only thing Cole had liked about her had been her hair. And Locke was dating her. Locke was dating her and had never said anything about it to him. At least everyone knew that Cole had a girlfriend. If you can call her that. The blue-haired boy had been awake all night, tossing and turning and reaching out to pull his belongings back onto their shelves before they went crashing into the walls or through his window.
Rolling onto his side he groaned when the digital numbers showed that it was not even six o'clock. Here he had almost hoped that he had passed out somewhere around four and slept until it was time to get up and get ready for... oh no. Oh no, no, no he could not go to school today. There was no way that he could look at Locke or see Angeline for the first time, or even just Bunny. Not after last night. He would rather turn the blender on and stick his hand in it than have to say 'good morning' or 'hi' to anyone. That way the next time he went to school he would be able to have a good conversation starter. 'Yeah I blended my hand off because it's way easy to think about than the whole liking a guy who has a girlfriend but didn't tell me even though we were making out.' This time his groan was accompanied by a crash as his backpack went shooting into the wall. No, that was it, he could not do school today. He would make himself throw up if that would get him out of it.
But no matter what he did it stood to reason that he was going to have to tell his parents. Or really his mother. Cole would be fine with just telling his dad, but then he would tell his mom and he would have to find a way to explain it anyhow so it was just better to start out with Lilith. Or both of them. But I don't want to tell dad what's wrong... Slipping out of bed, Cole padded over to his door and opened it before checking to make sure neither of his sisters were up. The last thing he needed was for them to see him sneaking into their parents room. The mocking would never stop if they caught him. Cole was just awake enough to open the door slowly enough so that it did not creak, moving carefully to keep the floorboards silent as he moved to the foot of his parents bed. For a moment he just stood there, fidgeting, before he lifted himself up onto the end and immediately curled up into a ball. It was exactly what he had done for his entire life whenever he felt sick. He would wake up too early and curl up on the bed while he waited for his parents to wake up so that they could take care of him and possibly put him back to bed. Now he was definitely big enough to put himself back, but until college started he was not going to be old enough to make the call about staying out of school. And if he wanted his mom to believe that he was too sick for school then he needed to act sick. His eyes were probably red enough to make it believable. She'll be poking at me in like thirty second, she knows I'm here. Please let her wake up before dad.
