"I like your style," she said with a soft shrug. "But I like you more than I like your style, so whatever you choose to be in the long run is fine with me. How was your food?" Verity motioned toward his plate. They had been talking so much that she was surprised either of them had time to even take a bite. Not that she was complaining. She liked having company, and she definitely liked it when someone could stimulate her brain. And there was still a lot about Artus that she didn't know, but would hopefully one day find out.
"You like it because it screams professor doesn't it? Still fishing for that A?" He teased tugging at the hem of his shirt. Polos weren't exactly unfashionable, however people usually didn't wear them quite like him, buttoned up, collar down, freshly ironed. "It was very good." He said with a nod. "How was yours?" Which was a silly question to ask since they had ordered the same thing. It was still polite of him right?
Verity grinned and folded her arms on the table, leaning forward just a bit. "Maybe I'm realizing that I have a thing for professors... or potential professors. It must be the polo and loafers. Or maybe I'm just really curious what goes on under the proper, serious exterior most of them have." Sure, she was flirting, but at this point, she felt like he could take it. Verity looked down at her half eaten food and considered it before she smiled at him. "It was really good. And filling. It definitely sated by craving for pasta."
Artus looked more than enthusiastic about her flirtation. Pushing away thoughts that she could have just been teasing he smiled at her. "Well you should have picked a better candidate for finding out about the inner workings of their minds. Writers have a high rate of insanity." She might not want to know what's going on in that mind of his. "Yes, me too, though I think the next time I find myself eating pasta I'll have a craving for interesting girls who hold the best of conversations."
She laughed and nodded, reaching her bag beside her on the booth, since she still fully intended on paying. "Well, if you can't find any, let me know and I'll fill in. If you're willing to settle anyway." Verity winked at him before digging through her bag to find her wallet. She was always losing stuff, it seemed. But she knew it was in there somewhere. "Insanity is okay with me... it's definitely more interesting than a dull mind. And you definitely don't have a dull mind."
Artus' smile grew when she said she would fill in. "It wouldn't be settling because you were the interesting girl who I was talking about in particular. I mean, if you'd like to have pasta, or any other meal with me again." As she dug around in her bag Artus tapped his fingers on the table. If he told her she'd only get angry, but the more she dug, he realized he had to tell her. "Don't worry about finding your wallet." He told her casually stretching his arms out. "I already took care of it."
"I'm pretty sure I wouldn't mind eating a meal with you again," Verity assured him. She looked up from her bag when he said he had taken care of it. She was confused for about a half a second before she realized what she meant. Sighing, Verity shot him a look, although she wasn't genuinely upset. "I told you that this was supposed to be my treat. For finishing your book and everything." If he didn't let her pay for dinner, she would have to do something else for him.
