Can you see the means without the ends? Who: Darklis and Locke When: Lunch time Where: SOHS
Locke had so many memories of that 'first day' at school that he didn't even pay much attention to it anymore. Not to the first day part, the school part he paid a ton of attention to. Locke loved going to school and getting to have it start back up again had been one of his few bright points in the past weeks. He'd needed those bright points and he'd definitely been clinging to this one. Right up until the news had started flashing stories about a vampire being in school. He'd freaked. Oh, Locke had freaked right out and he didn't care if it worried Amelia because he had a good reason and it was so rare that he acted his apparent age that he'd given in just once. Locke didn't want to go to school with a vampire. He'd never been able to abide by the idea of judging someone before you got to know them, but vampires... vampires worried him. They had caused his last death, they'd killed Jan and his son, and he knew they'd still be looking for him. When immortal beings wanted their revenge he couldn't see them doing anything but keeping on until they got it. Another reason I should- That thought had been effectively killed by a thought of blue hair. Which had triggered another thought; Cole had told him about a vampire girl who looked their age who was going to school with him. Could it be the same one? Not that it really made anything better. Locke hadn't known how he felt about that then and he still didn't know how he felt about it now. Though he couldn't keep worrying about it once he walked into the school. Being worried was just so hard for him on the first day. There were all those classes to go to and lessons to learn and he just loved the way that the school smelled. First whiff of his history book -- although he knew more about it than these books could tell even if most of it was distant knowledge -- and he'd almost forgotten that he'd been worried about anything.
When time rolled around for lunch, Locke was headed for the cafeteria and the place he liked to sit with his friends when he caught himself just outside the swinging doors. Those friends included Bunny and Cole and... they were dating. Locke had seen both of them since he'd found that out, but he hadn't seen them together and he really didn't think that he wanted to. Maybe not ever. I mean, yeah I know what I think Cole is, but what if he's trying to figure it out by doing the same thing with Bunny that he is with me? His mind rejected the mental image of Bunny and Cole making out for several reasons and it also tossed away the idea of them holding hands or sitting together or laughing or... no. Locke was stepping back before he'd fully processed what he was doing, hands shoved into his pockets while his eyes went down to look at the ground. He'd just go read a book in the library. Or something. He didn't need to eat lunch. Oh sure, his stomach had just growled at him and probably wouldn't appreciate this decision in a few hours, but Locke really didn't want to see that today. He adored Bunny and Cole, just not together no matter how fake it was. The library. The library would be better.
He probably needed to stop staring at the ground too, but he didn't want anyone to see the look on his face.
