Dylan wanted to ask if eating people was a law too. It didn't really seem very serious to Dylan - there were lots of humans on the planet anyway - but humans could be very strange and angry. Hadn't one of the other mermaids said that the people had come to the water and they had been angry because mermaids were eating them? Anyone would think they owned the water.
"Do they in-ves-ti-gate if they don't see you? If I steal this," he said, picking up her dress (ohhh, sparkly), "then they'll look for me?"
Ultimately he decided not to ask his question. After all, he had only just met Fluffy and it would be a shame if she got the right idea about him so early on. Plus she was getting stay on glitter for him, and humans were better when they weren't being compelled; they made fewer mistakes.
"Teal," he repeated, although it ended up sounding more like 'foal' when Dylan said it. "How many colours are there?" Sometimes he thought it was ten, but then other colours came along, like teal, that were a separate colour and you just didn't know their name.
Dylan cocked his head to one side and raised his tail out of the water. "You look human. What's a water elemental?" He didn't really why she wouldn't be calm if he gave her something, but right now he was more interested in knowing what she was. Fluffy looked just like a human girl; would she taste differently if he ate her?
