Dream of a stairway to the skies Who: Aurora and Diana Where: That meadow near the house When: Early afternoon
When Diana had stopped to think about it, which had been surprising in and of itself, she'd realized something that she didn't like one little bit. She'd spent time alone with all of her children. Dashiell, Caelia, Cheila and Aetheria... but not Aurora. Somehow, during all the time they'd been there she'd never actually been alone with her middle child. Aurora had been to the house on her own several times and apparently she spent her time with Cheila when she did that, or with all of them, and it hadn't ever been just her and Diana. Which bothered her. Diana didn't think for a moment that she played favorites, but she knew that she worried the most about Aurora. How couldn't she? All of them had gone through terrible things, none of them would tell her what those terrible things were, but Aurora just brought out that little extra desire to mother and coddle and yes, it was because she was blind. She'd have dared any mother to have only one child out of five be blind and not treat them with that extra bit of care while trying to instill the same desire in the other four. Aetheria could no longer speak, and that broke her heart because she'd had the most beautiful voice, but Aurora hadn't ever been able to see. And Diana hadn't spent a moment alone with her since their return. It wasn't because she was afraid that she'd forgotten how to behave... it wasn't... it was. And that realization had caused a little tornado that had wreaked havoc on her and Barnabas' room. Leaving the mess for later she'd gone to seek out Aurora. Who hadn't been in the house. She'd been about to worry that everyone was gone when her familiar had informed her that Aurora had gone off to the meadow with Neveah.
Diana wasn't sure where the meadow was, so Breeze guided her. Which was for the better because she really didn't want to get distracted halfway there only to realize that she'd done it yet again. If she wasn't so sweet she'd hate me for avoiding her. 'I doubt very much that any of your children could hate you.' Diana didn't. She'd had each and every one of them stolen away while she was barricaded in the inner room of the temple and it'd taken her years to find them. They'd been damaged in those years. She could blame herself. Did blame herself. For what had to be the millionth time she wondered what could've happened if she had been there. Lightning, wind, rain, a storm to end all storms because no one touched her children. Only they did. Diana's eyes were damp when she reached what had to be the meadow and saw a brightly dressed form spread out on the grass, arms behind her head as she stared at the sky. Though 'stared' wasn't the right word since Aurora couldn't really stare at anything. "Aurora?" Diana called a little before she reached her, not wanting to catch the girl by surprise. "Do you mind if I come out here with you for awhile?"
