"I know." Really, she did. Amanda didn't need anybody telling her how 'lovely' her rings were even in the form of a false pleasantry because she was fully aware. Also, by that point in time she had heard it from so many people already that the sentiment made her want to punch the speaker to see how hard she'd have to hit them before her wedding and engagement rings left their mark on the idiot's face. Preferably without any damage to the rings themselves. "But thank you for saying so." Oh god, if she could gag on her own words this was already the equivalent of Amanda sticking two fingers down her throat. Though she did have to admit that even hearing Liliya Kennedy refer to her as Mrs. Calvert had added a pleasant little kick to her day. If only because, once again, she was left with a strong desire to know why it was that Kennedy's mail-husband had taken her name rather than the other way around. Although his double-barrel surname did sound absurd, she had to admit. It wasn't exactly something that would be getting the middle class white American vote, now, was it? Not even when paired with Kennedy. Come on. Say your piece, get huffy, get gone. She really would have to check who they had left in her place when she was in hospital.
Amanda's smile stayed exactly where it was. Please. She'd been through enough face-offs with her mother and Marion to be moved by pseudo-political sniping. Not even the smile with its fangs did anything to change her expression, though she did take a moment to cross her legs. There was this nagging feeling that this might take a while. "I'm certain he is aware of your arrival. His Personal Assistant is at that desk--" She motioned to the girl at the other side of the room, who immediately stopped like a deer caught in the headlights. "--and I'm sure she is more than capable of using a phone. Not to mention that news of your allegedly unceremonious arrival was CCed to... Everyone, apparently." She turned her computer monitor around should she want to see. True, Amanda had only just seen the email herself or she wouldn't have been caught at all off-guard by the fanged bitch, but that wasn't the point. The part where it apparently would look amazing for him not to turn her away when the town was going to hell again, she wasn't even going to touch on. It also looked amazing in general when the Chief Advisor to the City Administrator tried calling ahead of time. Or perhaps she had forgotten that the world did not revolve around her and that it certainly didn't revolve around those like her. Especially when they seemed to be causing the problems. Lips curving upwards just that bit more, Amanda tilted her head slightly. "The Mayor's schedule became extremely flexible," she agreed, nodding. "But then it was suggested that perhaps he shouldn't be seen to be supporting either side of such an issue too strongly. As his PR lawyer, I had to agree. It just wouldn't send the right message, and I'm sure you can understand that." Her metaphorical tail twitched. This was a part of her job she had almost missed. Challenges. "So I am sorry, Ms. Kennedy, but he is still not available." He was probably playing with that mini golf set.
