"Grounded" is just a word Who: Kat and Cole Where: Skate park When: 5:30 p.m.
Technically Kat was still grounded. Which meant that technically, and every other sort of way, she wasn't supposed to be out of what counted as the house. Sometimes she could get it to stretch to the houses of family members if she gave a good enough pout, but no pout was good enough to get her as far away as she'd gone this time. 'This time' happened to be the skate park with her rollerblades and the full knowledge that oh hell yes she was breaking the rules she'd brought down on her own head. Why? Because it was boring to stay inside of the house and her parents should've known better by now than to try grounding a were-kid for more than a span of three days. Past that and it was really just asking for them to break it. Maybe regular kids could tone themselves down, but Kat couldn't figure out a way to get her body to obey the 'sit, stay' order that her parents seemed to think she needed to. Just flat-out didn't work that way. Kat was a teenaged were-penguin and she needed to get out of the house and do something. Felipe and Linda should just be grateful that she wasn't the sort to hit up every party in town and that she tended to sneak out in broad daylight to make her way to the skatepark for some nice, healthy letting it all out. So she happened to be doing it with a guy she thought to be the most awesome thing to have existed since Abdiel Colberg. Blue hair, wicked moves with the skateboard, a piercing just like hers and a teenage boy. There were no further requirements for Kat to be pretty much smitten and yes, she deliberately ignored all the flashing neon and gold signs that screamed 'this boy is gayer than my sister' because she didn't want to see them.
Kat was amazing at ignoring things she wanted to.
Buckling her skates, Kat pushed herself off the bench and began some long, slow circles while she waited for Cole to show up. Not only were they going to hang, but he was going to do what no one at home would - listen to her talk about the news. There was going to be a vampire at SOHS when it started up! Kat was totally psyched over this and couldn't wait for classes to start so that she could check out who it was. She was sure she'd be able to pick them out within a minute of passing by them. Vampires had to have some sort of weird odor even to a penguin, didn't they? I wonder if they smell like blood or death or dirt or old graves... probably not rotted flesh since they're not zombies. Wonder if Cole knows. Maybe he's met one! Oh, Cole is not a were. Kat made a face as she started to weave her way in and out of imaginary cones, wishing she'd remembered hers so that she could've stayed entertained until Cole showed up. Time was ticking and there was only so much of it that existed before her parents noticed she was missing and came looking. Kat wanted to get in at least two ramps and some serious chat-time before that happened.
