And everyone inside the mechanism is yearning to get out
Who: Brodie and Drina
Where: Lenore Bookstore and Cafe
When: Mid-afternoon
Brodie wondered how exactly one got bored while sitting at a café drinking the most virgin of teas that in no way shape or form could cause his untimely death or him to look like he'd just eaten Willy Wonka's forbidden new experiment...or both. But the truth was, he was bored right now. He was watching the nigh-empty cafe from beneath his eyelids, the same threatening to lower until his eyes were closed unless he started doing something interesting and fast. Then again, he almost always felt like that, courtesy of his mild pill addiction. Good thing he wasn't allergic to the ingredients on that type of medication, or he'd be thoroughly screwed with no way to get any sort of buzz at all. Or maybe he'd get an eternal deathly buzz; you could look at it both ways.
He wondered where everybody was; his band, his friends (the two groups overlapping of course), even Shayla, his employee who was quickly becoming someone he liked to hang out with as well. Then again, Brodie hadn't exactly called any of them to ask if they wanted to hang out. If he was alone, that was of his own doing. Eying his phone briefly, Brodie thought about calling someone but then decided not to. There were books, sure, but the ones that interested him he had already read, and even though he had picked up I Am Legend he read it in about twenty to forty-five minutes thanks to his innate speed-reading ability. That had been one good book, but now he was just bored again.
Looking outside, Brodie noticed it was still slightly stormy and annoying, but he got up from his chair and stepped outside to light up a cigarette anyway. Why not, if there was nothing else to do? Brodie pulled his hood up over his head and sheltered the lighter from the wind, taking him a few tries before the cigarette got properly lit. Once he gave the first puff, the smoke was blown in a sigh of boredom as Brodie looked around at the street in front of him to find something to amuse himself with. After the smoke he would most likely just give it up, finish his tea inside and go surf the web until it was time to open Ozzy's. What a way to waste his life time...
